| | WHS Alumni Fund Tops $100,000

Bill and Barbara Earle present a $2,000 check to the Winslow High School
Alumni Scholarship Fund. Joe Dedman, Treasurer of the WHS Alumni
Association is accepting it for the Alumni.
Bill and Barbara's donation combined with two other large donations pushed the
fund over the $100,000 mark. Joe had announced at the Alumni Banquet last
week it looked like they were going to top $100,000, but they just fell
short. He said they received two anonymous challenge donations. Both
agreed to match any donation up to $2,000. A few donations were
received over the weekend and then Bill and Barbara's donation put us over the
top, said Dedman. I think it is remarkable what they have accomplished
with a little school like Winslow. He said the fund that was started in
1982 now in its 25th year has awarded a Pike Central graduate a scholarship each
year to help them attend college. Dedman said they have helped 24 kids go
to college now. The students receive a payment each of their four years in
college. Earle, a native of Winslow said they donated to the fund because,
"When I was growing up we didn't have any money to go to school.
