Stanley Ray Barr, 73, of Norman,
Oklahoma and formerly of Winslow,
Indiana passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 in Norman, Oklahoma.
Stanley was born March 22, 1934, in
Newburgh, Ind., to Russell and Louise Barr. Stanley was a member of the Winslow
Class of 1952 and was raised in Winslow, Indiana. He joined the Navy
in 1951. serving until 1955.
He married Shirlene Barr, January 15,
1955. They moved to Norman, OK in 1955 making it their permanent
home. He went to work for Aero Commander in 1956. Later, he
worked for Tinker Field Air Force Base, where he started as a bus driver,
was promoted to heavy equipment mechanic and worked his way up to head
inspector, having the responsibility for all moving equipment at Tinker
Field.
He maintained that position until his
retirement in 1982. Mr. Barr served in the Navy Sea Bees for
30 years, advancing to the highest enlisted rank as a Command Master
Chief.
He was preceeded in death by his
parents.
Survivors include his wife, Shirlene;
sons Russell Barr and John Barr; daughter Shari Barr McCarty; brothers Lee
Barr and Ned Barr; sister Jeannine Barr Potter; grandchildren, Andrew
Steven Barr, Nathan Ray Barr, Julie Barr and Curtis Barr.
Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday,
February 19 at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin. Services were
under the direction of Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman, OK.
