Bessie Myrtle Pipes Vineyard,
99, died Sunday, May 29, 2005, just one week before her 100th
birthday. She was born in Winslow, June 6, 1904, the daughter
of Effie Chesser and Ralph Pipes. She graduated from Winslow High
School in 1923 and married James P. Vinyard May 2, 1924. They were
married 70 years before he preceded her in death in 1994.
Mrs. Vinyard was a two-time finalist in the
Pillsbury Bake-Off competition, winning a 1966 trip to San Francisco with
her lemon pie and a 1967 trip to Los Angeles with an unusual pizza.
A lifelong member of Winslow Christian Church,
she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Vinyard, her son, James
A. Vinyard, and her sister, Cleo English.
Surviving are two daughters, Marcia Curtis of
Winslow and Lenore Bechtel of Foley, AL; seven grandchildren, 14
great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, June 4, 2005,
at the Curtis Funeral Home in Winslow at 10 a.m. with burial at Oak Hill
Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, June 3, 2005, from 4-8
p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winslow
Christian Church. |
