Pictured above is a picture of the Black
School, Monroe Township, Pike Co, Indiana. It was donated to the
Pike County Library from Elna Thompson, widow of Eugene Thompson and his
nephew, Tom Sharpe. Eugene Thompson graduated from Spurgeon High
School in 1935 and taught school at Ross School, Monroe Township Grades 1
through 8th in 1938-1939. Then he taught at the Lincoln School,
Monroe Township in 1940-1941 Grades 1 throught 8th. Eugene was
teaching at the Black School when he left in March 1941 for military
service in WWII. Wayne Erwin finished out the school year after
Eugene left.
