Larry Carter
WINSLOW — Larry N. Carter, 69, died Friday, May 5, 2006, at the
Hospice Facility in Palm Springs, Calif., suffering from Lou Gehrig's (ALS)
disease.
He was born June 2, 1936, in Winslow to Marlin and Doris (Hurt) Carter.
He loved all sports and won many awards in basketball and tennis. He
played basketball at Winslow High School and college basketball at
Vincennes University and the University of Evansville. He graduated from
Vincennes University in 1956 and University of Evansville in 1961, with a
degree in mechanical engineering.
He spent a short time at Whirlpool Corporation in Evansville and was
later hired by Rockwell International in California. He continued his love
for sports, and concentrated on tennis as an avid player and instructor.
He retired from the Boeing Company (former Rockwell International) after
36 years.
Surviving are his mother, Doris (Carter) Williams of Boonville; three
daughters, Candi Mayhugh, Pamela Goertz and Debra Foust; two sons, Larry
V. Carter and Rory Carter, all of California; Peggy Carter of California,
the mother of his children; Judy Chandler of California, partner,
companion and care provider; one sister, Rhea Young and husband Charles of
Winslow; and one brother, Don Carter of Boonville. He was preceded in
death by his father, Marlin Carter of Boonville.
A memorial service was conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 16, at Curtis
Funeral Home in Winslow.
