Curtis Grocery - Winslow, Indiana
| This building used to house the Denver
& Mary Curtis grocery store located near the Winslow High School in
Winslow, Indiana. The building closely looks like the
structure that housed the grocery, except the front has been changed and a
new door has been added. Mary ran the candy counter (a main
feature of the store) and Denver would help prepare sandwiches for the
students who wanted to buy a sandwich (which sold for 10cents) a
coke for 5 cents and penny and nickel candy of all kinds. The store
also carried a general stock of groceries but was busiest when school
was out for lunch and after school. The store was almost a
necessary stop for something to eat because Winslow did not have a
cafeteria until in the early 50's and then it offered a change from
cafeteria food and lots of candy. |
