Eldon E. Nelson, 60, of Marietta, Ga, passed away
peacefully at home on Thursday,
December 6, 2007.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Kay (Auten) Nelson; two
daughters, Leah Nelson and Scot Stankiewicz of Marietta. Georgia and Heather Nelson
and Paul Rattin of Chicago, Illinois; two grand-daughters Kaylee and
Lauren Stankiewicz; brother, Alan Nelson of Winslow,
Indiana; sister, Lyndall Nelson Capen of Indianapolis, Indiana; and
nieces and nephews.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and
friend. He grew up in Winslow, Indiana where he played on the high
school basketball team and married his high school sweetheart,
Kay. Eldon was a graduate of Winslow High School Class of
1965. He earned his master's degree in Mathematics from Purdue
University and spent several years after graduation teaching mathematics
in Indiana to high school and college students before embarking on a 29
year career with IBM. After retiring, he enjoyed handy-man work and
helping out others with small projects. He was an avid
Harley-Davidson rider and outdoorsman that enjoyed bow-hunting and
fishing.
Most of all he loved his family, friends, and
spending time with his precious grand-daughters. He was a brave
fighter and battled Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia for 14 years, but he
never gave up and never complained. A special thanks goes to all his
doctors and nurses from the Atlanta Cancer Center and St. Joseph's
Hospital that have helped the entire family over the years.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on
Friday, December 7, 2007 at Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta, Georgia.
Services were at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 8,
2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in Marietta.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be

or to the First Presbyterian Church of marietta in recognition of the 3:30
Club, a children's after school tutoring program.
A memorial service will be held in Winslow, Indiana
at a later date.
