The show is part of the annual Greene County Foundation Festival Weekend,
June 4-6, 2010. This year marks the 31st anniversary of the festival, which
began as the Phil Harris Scholarship Festival and has continued since his
death as the Greene County Foundation Festival, headlined by Roy Clark.
This is the Foundation’s only fundraiser. |
Roy Clark has become a household name in Greene County
community thanks in part to his involvement with the festival. Clark is
celebrating 63 years in the music business. A guest of the late Phil
Harris, a native of Linton who founded the show, Clark first performed
with his longtime friend in Linton at the annual scholarship festival in
1981. Clark once again entertained the Greene County crowd in 1996. He has
returned every year since 1998 to headline the show.
|
Clark’s talent has taken him all over the world,
including Russia, where he led his own show in 1976. He gained fame
hosting the popular TV show “Hee Haw” with Buck Owens for 25 years. In
television history, “Hee Haw” was the longest-running syndicated
series. Clark has also been seen on many other shows including “The
Beverly Hillbillies.” He was also the first country music artist to
guest host “The Tonight Show” for Johnny Carson.
|
Over the 63 years, Roy Clark has recorded a string of
hits, including “Honeymoon Feeling,” Thank God and Greyhound You’re
Gone,” “Come Live With Me” and “Yesterday When I Was Young.”
Best-known for his string skills with a guitar and banjo, many may recall
his 12-string guitar version of “Malaguena.” Roy’s first hit was
“The Tips of My Fingers,” topping both country and pop charts in the
early 1960s.
|
| The full musical lineup for the festival includes Woody
Woodbury, Jerry Chestnut, comedian Kevin King, Jack Shelton,
piano player Mike
Beheymer and Branson star, Ronnie Prophet. The star-studded show of professional performers is being
completed and will be updated later. In the past 30 years, such greats as
George Gobel, Pete Fountain, Johnny Lee, Trini Lopez, , Boots Randolph,
Peter Marshall, Jimmy Dean, George “Goober” Lindsay, and Forrest
Tucker have performed on the festival stage. |
