| | Former Horrell Motors
Agency and Teen Center Site
| This building housed the former Horrell
Bros. Agency and a former Teen Center in Winslow. Alvin
Horrell operated the business in Winslow back in the late 40's and early
50's selling Desoto, Plymouth and Hudson automobiles and he also ran a used car
lot located on the corner of Main and Center next to the old Winslow Post
Office. One of the most unusual autos they sold was a two-tone
Pink and Black Desoto about 1955 which was unusual for an automobile in
its time. Raymond Stephens bought one of the first ones (Pink
& Black) and it was seen usually parked around the Stephens Cafe
business which was also located on Main Street just south of
Center. The Horrell Agency was located on Main Street in the
second block north of Main and Center. Alvin, and his
wife, Frances along with son, Larry lived in Winslow about this same time
up near the Winslow High School. The Teen Center came
later among other users and the building is now used by a Church group
which has done a good job in keeping the building in good shape. |
