Marion Ishmael Battles, 77, Vincennes, IN died Wednesday, October
20, 2010 with his entire family by his side.
He was born November 29, 1932 in Pike County. Marion was the
son of Heber and Estelle Battles. He was a member of the 1950
graduating class of Winslow High School. After high school, he
served in the Korean War and graduated from Oakland CIty University and
Indiana State University.
Marion was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and
great-grandfather. He taught in the Vincennes Community Schools for
37 years. He loved children and teaching history. He was
actively involved in his church, the First Church of God in Vincennes,
where he sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, and served on many
Boards. Marion enjoyed traveling, hiking, and working in his
garden. Spending time with his family and visiting with friends were
pastimes that he truly loved.
Survivors include his wife, Lavada (Willams) Battles whom he married
on Oct 5, 1953; two sons, Kreg (Susy) Battles and Dale Battles; two
grandchildren, Ian (Molly) Battles and Megan (Michael) Seibert; and three
great-grandchildren, Leyton and Cooper Battles and Bennett Seibert.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Lavonne
Fettinger.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 25,
2010 at First Church of God, 1408 E. St. Clair, with Pastor George Karl
officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October
24, 2010 at Goodwin Funeral Home, 524 Broadway St., Vincennes, IN.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First
Church of God Building Fund.
