Betty Ann (Barnett) Biggs, 84,
former Monroe City resident, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2011, at Gentle
Care Nursing Home with her family at her side.
She was born July 9, 1926 in Winslow, to the late Herman and Bertha Mae (Bement)
Barnett. She graduated from Winslow High School in the class of 1944 and
Devry’s School of Beauty Culture in Evansville. Betty married Norman
Biggs on Oct. 18, 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1966. Betty was an
Avon representative for many years in the Monroe City area and had worked
at South Knox High School.
Betty was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She leaves behind her son, Keevin Biggs of Loogootee; two daughters, Karen
(Bill) Sampson of Monroe City and Karleen (Dennis) Nichols of Vincennes;
four grandchildren, Lauren (Seth) Alexander, Ryan (Shannon) Biggs, Michael
Sampson, Matthew (Bobbie) Sampson; and 13 great grandchildren. Betty was
preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Cheryl Biggs, and her brother,
Floyd Barnett.
A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at
10:30 a.m. (EDT) Friday, April 29, 2011, in Gardner-Brockman Funeral Home,
505 Main St., with Pastor Seth Alexander officiating. Following the
service, she will be laid to rest next to her husband in Walnut Hills
Cemetery at Petersburg. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday from
4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends and family are encouraged to
