| Wilburn K. DeBruler, 84 of Edmond, OK, formerly of Pike
County, died Thursday, July 7, 2011, in Edmond. He was born in
Winslow, Indiana to William and Lucy DeBruler. He was a
graduate of Winslow High School, Class of 1943.
After graduating a year early from Winslow High School, he
joined the Navy with his parents permission. He served first as a
frogman, then on the destroyer, the U.S.S. Wingfield DE-194 as a
sonar man in the ETO and PTO during WWII.
He married the former Lois A. Bottom. He attended Oakland City
College and graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University of
Louisville, Ky and was later admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme
Court. After closing private practice in Petersburg, Indiana,
DeBruler began his career in the FBI in 1956, He was assigned as a
special agent in Mobile, Montgomery, Miami, St. Petersburg, and Tampa,
then was promoted to supervisor in the Civil Rights Section.

DeBruler served as assist agent in charge at Phoenix and Los Angles
followed by a position as inspector in the Inspection Division at FBIHQ.
He served as special agent in charge at Oklahoma City, Atlanta, and
Detroit. He retired from the Bureau as assistant director of the
Planning and Inspection Division at FBIHQ in Washington, DC. During
his retirement, he was employed as hearing officer and general counsel for
the Kentucky Personnel Board, Frankfort, KY.
Surviving are his wife, Lois; a daughter, Conya (Philip) Holcomb; a
son, Byron (Wanda) DeBruler; a sister, Ruth McInturf of Tennessee; and one
grand-daughter.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, July 11, 2011 at
Hahn -Cook/Street and Draper Funeral home.
