Harry William Hale, 89, of Ames, IA, formerly of
Winslow, passed away on Friday, February 05, 2010, in Naples, Florida,
suffering from cancer. He was born September 15, 1920 in Winslow,
Indiana, to Luther and Ethel (McCord) Hale. He grew up in
Winslow. He was a graduate of Winslow High School, Class of
1938 and then attended Purdue University in Lafayette, Ind., earning his
BS degree in 1942, his MS degree in 1949 and his PhD in Electrical
Engineering in 1953. Early in his career, Dr. Hale taught at Purdue
and Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. In 1968 he joined
the faculty of Iowa State University (Ames, Iowa) in Electrical and
Computer Engineering and Computer Engineering and was there until his
retirement in 1991. He published manyu papers in the areas of
electrical and computer engineering. Harry entered the Army in
1942, serving with Patton's 3rd Army in Germany. He left the Army in
1947, attaining the rank of Captain. Harry was first married to
Anna Mae (Ward) Hale in 1946 and had one child, Charles D. Hale.
Anna passed away on Christmas Day, 1984. he married Margery O. (Bornmueller)
Hale on September 7, 1985. He continued to live in AMes with Margery
following his retirement, but also enjoyed spending the winter months in
Naples, Florid. Harry was a member of the professional
organization IEEE, the Ames Noon Rotary Club, Moose Lodge, Ames Elk Lodge
#1626 and American Legion Chapter 37. He also enjoyed playing bridge
and was a member of bridge clubs in Ames and Naples. Harry is
survived by his wife, Margery, his daughter-in-law, Carol Hale, Alden,
Iowa; Margery's children, Alan and Sally Bornmueller, Greer, SC; Gary and
Colleen Bornmueller, Des Moines, IA; and Lisa (Bornmueller) and Antonio
Dias, Downey, CA; his sister, Esther Jacobs, Indianapolis, IN;
grandchildren, Patsy Hynick, Brian Romine, Julie (Bornmueller) Birello,
and Bryan Bornmueller; great-grandson, Mikel Hynick; and many loving
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife
Anna; his son, Charles; his parents, and four sisters, Margaret Williams,
Mary Richardson, Ruth Garrison, and Velma Pancake. Visitation was
from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, Feb 12, 2010 at Curtis Funeral
Home in Winslow, Ind., followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at
Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Pike County. In lieu of flowers,,
memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the American Cancer
