| Billy Gene Nance, 1SG USA (ret) was born on June 1, 1929
in Winslow, Indiana to Norman H. and Dessie (Blacketer) Nance.
He died on October 10, 2010 in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of
81.
Bill was raised and attended school in Indiana and was a graduate of
Winslow High School, Class of 1948. He enlisted in the Army at the
age of 18 and served his country for the next 20 years in Korea, Germany,
Vietnam, as well as several Army posts in the US including Ft. Hood Texas,
Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, and on the nuclear testing grounds at Sandia, New
Mexico. Decorations and commendations included the Republis of Korea
Medal with 5 battle stars, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 service stars,
Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal with
OLC, 4 Good Conduct awards, and several additional awards and
commendations for nuclear weapons training.
He married Juanita South on June 23, 1960 in Lawton, Oklahoma, and
retired from the Army on January 31, 1969. Bill went to work for
Texas Instruments in 1970 and retired in 1992. They moved to Lawton
in 2003 where they attended First Baptist East. Bill was a member of
the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed working with neighborhood improvement
projects.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and 3 sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita, of the home; a sister, Doris
McKiney and her husband Dillon in Indiana, and several devoted nieces and
nephes. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, donations be
made in Bill's name to: Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890,

Graveside services were held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 13,
2010 at Ft Sill National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Viewing was
scheduled for Tuesday evening, October 12, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 PM at
Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home.
