Larry Joe Parks
Winslow Alumni Class of 1966

Boonville, Ind. -- Larry Joe Parks, 59, passed away on Friday, July 25, 2008, at his home in Boonville, Ind.

He was born in Oakland City, Ind., the son of Rev. Orville and Dimple Stuart Parks, and would have turned 60 years old on Sunday, July 27, 2008.   He was a U.S. Army veteran and served as an SP4 Military Policeman during the Vietnam War, earning the Army Commendation Medal.

Larry was married to Carolyn Faye Blount on September 7, 1968, and would have celebrated 40 years of marriage this September.

He worked for Alcoa for the past 36 years as a machinist and was a member of Local 104.

He was a member of the 1966 graduating class of Winslow High School.

During his free time, Larry enjoyed bass fishing, working on projects around the house, spending time with his family, and the occaional weekend fishing trip.

He also enjoyed working with several members of the Boonville High School softball team over the years and attended the Crossroads Christian Church. 

Larry's kind heart, compassion, gentle nature, generosity, strong work ethic, and sense of humor will be remembered by all those who loved and knew him.

Larry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carolyn Parks, of Boonville, Ind.; daughter, Adrienne Parks and husband David Wehr, of Berkeley, Calif.  In addition, he is survived by brothers, Bill Parks and wife, Carmen, of Cunningham, Tenn., Richard Parks of Boonville, Ind., and Stuart Parks of Petersburg, Ind.; and sisters, Gloria White of Mt. Carmel, Ill., Jeanie Chesser of Winslow, Ind., and Mary Thompson of Lawrenceville, Ill., and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Hershel Parks and Kenny Parks, and sister, Charlene Russell.

Funeral service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at the Koehler Funeral Home, Boonville Chapel.  Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery, Boonville, Ind. with military rites by Warrick County Veterans Memorial Services.  Friends could call from 4 to 8 p.m., July 28, 2008 and Tuesday 9 a.m. to service time at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel.
