Elden Wayne Poehlein - passed away Sunday, February
01, 2009. He was born on May 31, 1924 in Winslow, Indiana to George
F. Poehlein and Margaret E. Hardin, the 5th of 6 children. Elden
graduated Winslow High School salutatorian and was a member of Winslow
High School Class of 1942. He served his country honorably in the
Marine Corp as Radio Tech, Pacific theater, WWII, and Korean War. He
married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Mary Margaret
Casey, on November 14, 1942. They had 3 children; Ronald Wayne
(deceased); Rita Carol Phillips (John); and Ruth Ann Baker
(Richard). The family moved to Tempe, AZ in 1956
while Elden was employed at AiResearch. In 1968 he attended MCC,
graduated Valedictorian. He graduated ASU in 1971, then taught at
Roosevelt School, Mesa from 1971 to retirement in 1983. He enjoyed
teaching grade school but felt his greatest accomplishment was his family,
especially his 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 4
great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 brothers,
Paul Poehlein (Aline), and Denzil Poehlein (Virginia) and many nieces and
nephews. Viewing was Thursday, February 5, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00
p.m. at Carr-Tenney Mortuary, 2621 S. Rural Rd. Memorial services were
held on Friday, February 6, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at Carr-Tenney
Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to St Jude
Children's Hospital. |
