Washington, IN - Vernor Dale Selby, 83, of Washington,
IN, died at noon Monday, July 14, 2008 at Emerald House. Dale
was born January 22, 1925, in Pike County, IN and was the son of Corbett
and Gertie (Fettinger) Selby.
He was a graduate of Winslow High School, Winslow, IN, Class of 1942
and also a graduate of Lockyear's Business College in Evansville.
He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World
War II. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 24 years
of service. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Dale is survived by one daughter, Dixie Darlene Singer of
Fortville; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Newton and husband DeWayne of
Campbelltown.
His wife, Wanda Lee (Brittain) Selby, whom he married November
15, 1943, died October 31, 2005. Two sisters, Edna and Nina Mae
Selby, and one brother, Jesse Selby, are also deceased. The
funeral was at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 18, 2008 at Gill Chapel, with Rev.
Bill Mallott officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Ridge
Cemetery in Pike County. The American Legion and V.F.W. did full
military honors at graveside.
Visitation was from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2008
at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery
Association. Envelopes available at the funeral home. There
was a luncheon at the First Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Friday, July 18,
