Robert Dale Thompson, 81, of Beaver Dam, KY, passed
away, Monday, January 17, 2011, at his residence. He was born
November 24, 1929, in Oakland City Indiana to the late Alfred Dale and
Gladys Hurst Thompson.
He was a graduate of Winslow High School Class of 1948.
Robert was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, a retired coal mine with
Peabody Coal Company and a member of the Hartford Methodist Church.
He enjoyed bowling with his friends and was an avid fisherman.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers,
Edsel Thompson and Gary Thompson; and his grandson, Robert L. Armstrong
III.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Martha L. Thompson of Beaver
Dam; his two sons, Roger D. Thompson of Beaver Dam and Jeff Thompson
(Debbie) of Rockport, KY; his two daughters, Debbie Jones (Arvin Jr.) of
Beaver Dam and Shirley Armstrong (Robert) of Augusta, GA; his two brother,
Maurice Thompson of Dothan, AL, and Al Thompson Jr. (Vera) of Augusta, GA;
his two sisters, Eva Williams (Bob) of Evansville, and Beverly Ellerbruck
(Virgil) of Evansville, IN; as well as 15 grandchildren and four
great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011 at
William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, KY with the Rev. Robert E.
Williams, and the Rev. Alfred Thompson Jr officiating. Burial will
be in Sunnyside Cemetery in Beaver Dam, with military honors provided by
Wesley Phelps Honor Guard. Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday, Jan 19, 2011 and from 9 a.m. until the time of service on
Thursday at the funeral home.
