| Adron D. Wood, 94, of Sullivan, Indiana, went to
be with the Lord at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at Miller's
Merry Manor in Sullivan, Indiana.
He was born in Glezen, Indiana, September 15, 1914, the son of
Ray and Ida Mae DeJarnett Wood.
He graduated from Winslow High School, Class of 1933. He
met his wife, Bernice Britton in 1937 and they were married in
French Lick, Indiana on April 14, 1940. He was employed by the
20th Century coal Co., Ayrshire Coal Co., and was a member of the 20
year Club of Amax Coal Co., retiring in 1979.
He was an avid golfer, and a member of the Sullivan Elks Club
#911, also the First Christian Church in Sullivan, where he served
as a Sunday school teacher and Elder.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Bernice Britton Wood
of Sullivan, one daughter, Adra Anne (Larry) Gierhart of San
Antonio, TX; two sons, Brent (Mary Susan) Wood and Dave (Debbie)
Wood, both of Sullivan; two sisters, Martha Selby of Largo, Fl., and
Helen Luttrull of Evansville; seven grandchildren, Laura Combs,
Christoper Gierhart, Marni Martinez, Doug, Greg, Josh and Emily
Wood, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, and six sisters.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25, 2009 at
Banks and Brust Funeral Home in Sullivan with Pastor Dale Wise
officiating. Burial was in the Center Ridge Cemetery.
Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. In lieu of
flowers the family requested memorial donations be made to the
Sullivan First Christian Church Building Fund. |
