Jimmie W. Powers, 68, of Winslow, passed away at 9:45
p.m. Monday, October 23, 2006 at Amber Manor Care Center in Petersburg,
IN.
He was born in Pike County, July 19, 1938, the son of Raymond and Elsie
(Williams) Powers. He married the former Janet Burns in 1959 and she
survives.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, as marshal for the Town of
Winslow and Petersburg City Police in the 1960's. He also worked as
a coal miner for Wright Coal Mine and Old Ben 2 Coal Company, retiring in
1993.
Surviving besides his wife, Janet, are a son, Michael Shawn Powers,
daughter-in-law, Tracy, and granddaughter, McKencie of Cayce, S.C.
He was preceded in death by a son, Mark W. Powers in 2001, grandson,
Tyler Coleman Powers in 2006, a sister Barbara Auten, and a brother,
Raymond Gene Powers.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2006 at
Curtis Funeral Home in Winslow with Rev. Terry Beadles officiating.
Burial was in Spurgeon Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday,
October 26, 2006 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. |
