Forrest Dewayne Thomas

Former Winslow Businessman
and Resident

Forrest D. Thomas, 85, of Central Avenue, Columbus, IN died at 12:36 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006, at Columbus Regional Hospital, Columbus, IN.

Mr. Thomas worked at Arvin Industries for 24 years and retired in 1986 in the Consumer Electronic Engineering Division. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion. An amateur radio operator, his call number was K9MRL.

The funeral was at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2006 at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street, with the Rev. Richard Vogsberger officiating. Calling was from 12:30 p.m. to service time Tuesday. Burial was at Garland Brook Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Memorials may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society.

Mr. Thomas was born April 6, 1920, in Augusta, the son of Cassel and Helen Tyler Thomas. He married Mabel I. Evans on Dec. 31, 1941.   Forrest was a TV Service and Repair man for many years in Winslow having his business in East End before joining Arvin Industries in Columbus.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Barry (Paula) Thomas of Bloomington; a daughter, Mary Helen (Gary L.) McKinney of Columbus; a sister, Marian “Sugar” (Charles) McLain of Augusta; grandchildren, Teresa Bay, Tammy Broughton, Shawn McKinney, Melissa Streeval and Evan Thomas; and great–grandchildren, Andrew and Chris Bay, Josh and Jake Broughton, Spencer and Haley McKinney, Justin Streeval and Madeline Thomas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob, Kenneth and Harland Thomas; and a sister, Maxine Thomas.
