page from the past..... Winslow
Main Street (West Side)
mid-50's

| Pictured above is a photo of the west side of Main
Street, Winslow, Indiana about the mid-50's. Snyders
Department store on the left, then Parkers Rexall Drug store, and the Star
Theater that used to be in Winslow. On the far left was the
First National Bank of Winslow. The blue entrance to left of
the Parker Drugs was the entrance of the Winslow Masonic Lodge and they
were on the second floor. The second floor above Snyders was
used for show rooms and the residence of Joe, Bess & Marvin Snyder and
there were apartments on the third floor above the Snyder
store. You can see on the right side of the picture, the
ticket booth for the Star Theater which was last ran by Jim
Bailey. At one time, prior to the Baileys running the
theater, it was managed by Irving Eskind and his mother sold
tickets. This time period was also when they had parking
meters along main and center street in Winslow. Further
north and to the right but not shown was Kent Furniture which also was a
long time fixture in Winslow and ran by Wilson Soderling and Shirl Corn.
