Winslow Mill & Elevator - Pre 1930 Photo

James Bryant, great grandpa of Kenneth Lindsay, owned and operated the mill from 1840 until about 1870.  Originally it was water powered, but Bryant turned it into steam power while he owned it.   When the river was low years ago you could see signs of the water wheel structure (foundation) under the present bridge.
Not certain about the time of this picture, but it pre-dates the 1930's it is thought.   Vague memories of this structure suggest the large front building and the smoke stack were gone by 1932, and some time before the paved highway and new steel bridge were finished during Keller Thompson's heyday of political activity and influence, a few years later.  The earliest recollection was that Charley Reiner owned and operated the mill, even after the large front building parts were gone and the smaller portion on the rear was all that remained.  It continued in operation for several years.  The operators that are remembered last were the Eversol brothers and after them was Heber Schultz who operated the feed mill in the late 50's or early 60's.  If anyone has more precise dating and recollections, please contact us and give us your information.

OLD COLEMAN FEED STORE AT WINSLOW, INDIANA The photo on the left was taken about 1944-1946 and pictures Lucille Amos Donham, seated on the porch, and former Winslow School teacher and her niece, who is standing,  Lanora Sue (McCandless) Kelley They were visting their Aunt Nora Coleman's Feed Store which operated at the north end of the Winslow Bridge over the Patoka river.
